• In 2009, Westgate Resorts agreed to pay $900,000 fine for illegal marketing practices. The charges were filed by the Federal Trade Commission
• In 2008, a former employee was awarded $5 million for a sexual harassment suit she filed against David Siegel. For many years, rumors surrounded Siegel and his sexual advances on his employees.
• In yet another series of controversies, Westgate Resorts has been sued multiple times by employees for failure to pay overtime and commissions.
• Westgate Resort maintenance fees are the subject of another controversy. Many owners have complained that maintenance fees have risen faster than industry (5% – 15% per year).
